India Pushes Stronger BRICS Tourism Cooperation at Ministerial Meeting

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat participated in the BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting, bringing together Tourism Ministers and senior officials from BRICS Member States to strengthen cooperation and advance shared priorities in the tourism sector.

During the meeting, Shekhawat outlined India’s vision for deeper and more effective tourism cooperation among BRICS countries. He highlighted the importance of emerging technologies, sustainable tourism practices, skill development, tourism exchanges and seamless travel facilitation.

India’s approach places particular emphasis on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support innovation and improve tourism experiences while promoting sustainable and responsible tourism across BRICS destinations.

The meeting also discussed strengthening tourism-related exchanges and developing greater opportunities for people-to-people connectivity among member countries. Enhanced skilling initiatives were highlighted as an important component in building a future-ready tourism workforce.

The BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Meeting concluded with the adoption of the BRICS Tourism Ministers’ Communiqué, reaffirming the collective commitment of member countries to advancing cooperation in tourism.

The communiqué reflects the shared objective of strengthening collaboration while supporting sustainable, inclusive and innovative tourism development across the BRICS grouping.
