That’s it and the end of a comfortable match for FC Bayern, who have made it a record 31 UEFA Champions League group matches without defeat. They were excellent throughout here and scored some high-quality goals, and on another night would probably have had more. Three wins out of three for them – the fourth season in a row they have started their UEFA Champions League campaign in such a fashion. Impressive stuff. The result was never in doubt as Plzen never had an answer for the menace of Bayern’s attacking unit, who were ruthless in securing a 5-0 win.

Leroy Sane scored twice as FC Bayern stretched their unbeaten run in group stage fixtures to a record-breaking 31. Sane got the ball rolling with a wonderful solo strike and by the 21st minute it was 3-0 as Serge Gnabry and Sadio Mane also found the net. Sane volleyed in his second of the night early in the second period before substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting finished another flowing Bayern move for number five.
Sadio Mane is named Player of the Match. The UEFA Technical team said: “He led from the front with his closing down of the defence, got through the opposition with some good passing and pace, and scored a well-taken goal. He kept the pressure up for the whole game and his positional play was excellent.”
This was the 26th time Bayern have scored five goals or more in a Champions League game, group stage to final – five more than any other side.
FC Bayern’s Sadio Mane said, “The team played a great game, we created a lot of chances. We deserved to win. The past few weeks were difficult. It was important to show a reaction. We reacted well after the international break. Hopefully we will continue like this until the end of the season.”
Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann said, “There are still a few more areas we need to tighten, but that’s how you have to approach a game. We decided it quickly in the first 20 minutes, that was so important for us and from there we then controlled it.”
