Suvendu Adhikari Visits Baruipur, Announces Relief Measures
Chief Minister Shubhendu Adhikari on Saturday visited Baruipur's Suryapur area to meet the families affected by the recent tragedy, announcing financial assistance, rehabilitation measures, and enhanced security while reaffirming the government's commitment to ensuring justice.
During his visit, the Chief Minister handed over a βΉ25 lakh compensation cheque to the family of Indrajit Mondal, who was killed in a mob assault following the alleged gang rape and murder of a minor girl. He also announced that Mondal's elder brother would be appointed as a civic volunteer at the newly established Suryapur Police Outpost.
Meeting the bereaved family of the minor girl, Adhikari assured them that those responsible for the crime would face the strictest legal punishment. While confirming that the government had provided assistance to the victim's family, he declined to reveal details, stating that the family should decide whether to make them public.
Fulfilling an assurance made during his earlier visit, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Suryapur Police Outpost, just four days after the victim's family requested a permanent police presence in the area to improve security.

Speaking about the investigation, Adhikari said all four principal accused had been arrested after allegedly attempting to flee towards the Indo-Bangladesh border. He said the government would pursue a custodial trial and that he would personally monitor the case to ensure the strongest possible punishment for those found guilty.
Commenting on the recent police encounter involving one of the accused, the Chief Minister said the matter was under CID investigation and declined to discuss it in detail. He remarked that criminals should fear the law, while law-abiding citizens had nothing to worry about.
Adhikari also alleged that the mob lynching of Indrajit Mondal was politically instigated. Besides the compensation, the state government announced several relief measures for his family, including renovation of their house, an old-age pension for his father, and benefits under the Annapurna Yojana for his mother.
Addressing concerns over police action following protests in the area, the Chief Minister said those involved in vandalism and damage to railway property would face legal action. At the same time, he directed the police to ensure that innocent residents were not subjected to unnecessary harassment.
Police patrolling has since been intensified in Suryapur, and the administration has stated that the situation is now under control while the investigation continues.
