Unnati Sharma Wins Bronze in Women's -63kg Judo at Commonwealth Games 2026

Indian judoka Unnati Sharma produced a commanding display to clinch the bronze medal in the Women's -63kg category at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, adding another milestone to India's remarkable judo campaign in Glasgow.

The 23-year-old required just 1 minute and 7 seconds to overpower South Africa's Skye Knoester in the bronze-medal playoff. Unnati executed a perfectly timed leg hook, earning a decisive Ippon and sealing the contest in emphatic fashion.

Dominant Road to the Podium

Unnati began her campaign with an impressive Round of 16 victory over Lamulela Magagula of Eswatini, winning by Ippon.

She carried that momentum into the quarter-finals, where she outclassed New Zealand's Qona Christie, securing victory through Waza-ari and Yuko after controlling the bout from start to finish.

Her run was halted in the semi-finals by Australia's Saya Middleton. Despite taking an early lead with a Yuko, Unnati was caught by a late comeback as Middleton secured victory by Ippon.

Showing exceptional resilience, the 2025 National Games champion bounced back strongly in the bronze-medal contest, delivering one of the quickest victories of the tournament.

India's Strong Judo Campaign Continues

Unnati Sharma's bronze is India's fourth judo medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, highlighting the country's growing strength in the sport.

India's medal tally in judo now includes:

Gold: Asmita Dey (Women's -48kg)
Gold: Harsh Singh (Men's -60kg)
Silver: Yamini Mourya (Women's -57kg)
Bronze: Unnati Sharma (Women's -63kg)

With another podium finish, India's judokas continue to make a significant impact at the Commonwealth Games 2026, reinforcing the nation's emergence as a strong force on the international judo stage.
