Delhi Heritage Clubs Launched in 75 CM Shri Government Schools

Delhi Heritage Clubs have been launched in 75 CM Shri Government Schools as part of an initiative to provide students with practical exposure to the capital's history, culture, architecture and heritage.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the programme on Friday, September 18, 2026. 

The initiative aims to take heritage education beyond conventional classroom lessons. Students will participate in heritage walks, museum visits, archival tours, heritage quizzes, exhibitions and projects focused on Delhi's history and cultural traditions.

The programme is being undertaken by the Department of Art, Culture and Language in association with the Delhi Archives. The planned activities will continue throughout the year and are designed to encourage students to explore and document the heritage around them.

Delhi Heritage Clubs Aim to Connect Students With History

Speaking at the launch, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasised the importance of allowing children to experience history beyond textbooks.

According to reports, Gupta said that merely studying history is not enough and that students should understand their roots and experience the heritage of the city in which they live.

The Delhi Heritage Clubs will therefore encourage students to explore historical buildings, monuments, museums and archival material while learning about different aspects of Delhi's past.

The programme also seeks to create greater awareness about heritage preservation among school students.

What Activities Will Students Participate In?
The Heritage Clubs will conduct a range of educational and creative activities during the academic year.

Heritage Walks and Museum Visits

Students will be taken on guided visits to historical sites, museums, archives and libraries. These activities are intended to provide first-hand exposure to the city's tangible and documentary heritage.
