Lost His Arms In A Freak Accident

Amir Hussain Lone (born 1990) is a cricketer from Bijbehara village in Jammu and Kashmir, He is known for being an armless cricketer and is the captain of the Jammu and Kashmir para-cricket team.

Amir lost his forearms at the age of 8 in 1997, in a freak accident in his family’s sawmill.  Despite this setback, instead of giving up on life, he kept playing cricket, a game he was passionate about with his legs once he had recovered enough. Quickly, Amir became known for his unique and innovative style of play.

In 2013, Lone’s team played in Delhi against the Kerala cricket team. He made headlines for his performance, as he was able to bat by putting his bat between his neck and chin and bowl with his legs. The freak accident and its aftermath could have shattered a grown up, yet, the then little boy did not let his physical condition get better of him. Instead, he made most of his other body parts to carry out his routine day to day activities along with nurturing his love of playing cricket.

With what most people achieve with their hands, Amir started doing with his feet – including changing his clothes, writing and eating, as astonishing as it may seem. If that was not enough, he did not let his dream of playing cricket at the international level also die down. To make his dream come true, the young player pushed his boundaries and trained himself to bowl with his feet and bat with his neck.

Strange, it may seem, yet his determination and continuous practice for years finally paid off as he got selected for the Divyang Premier League. Then, there was no looking back as he has literally gone from strength to strength, even representing India in tournaments abroad.

“Being passionate about cricket from the very beginning, I didn’t let my physical situation become a hurdle in my path. I decided to rather consider myself normal enough by using my other body parts instead of cringing about my hands,” says the young captain of Jammu and Kashmir’s Para team.

“Over the years my feet became my hands and life got normal,” he says.

In cricket, through sheer determination and painstaking efforts, Amir is today considered as an all-rounder who is a treat to watch. He is a popular player known for his stupendous performance that continues to bring him praises from different quarters.
