Team Scotland’s Commonwealth Youth Games champion Tyler Jolly, who recorded the fastest knockout in the history of the Games on Tuesday, reached the men’s over 63.5kg-67kg (welterweight) semi-finals after a points victory over Neville Warupi of Papua New Guinea.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Australia retained their 100 per cent winning record in Pool B – thanks to a 2-0 victory over Cyprus – to set up a quarter-final clash with Scotland in the women’s Beach Volleyball.
The Scots claimed a 2-0 win over the Solomon Islands, while Vanuatu beat England 2-0, who face New Zealand in the last eight.
In the men’s competition, Canada kept their winning Pool A record perfect with a narrow 2-1 triumph over the Gambia to set up a last-eight tie with Cyprus.
Canada left blocker Daniel Dearing is looking forward to the knockout stages, saying: “Playing in front of these fans. It’s my first time here. I’m getting a better feeling and I’m developing. Bring on the play-offs, baby.”

Lawn Bowls – Commonwealth Games: Day 7
Australia’s defending men’s singles champion Aaron Wilson remained on track to retain his title after a 21-7 victory over Guernsey’s Todd Priaulx, while Gold Coast silver medallist Ryan Bester of Canada claimed a 21-10 win against Wales’ Daniel Salmon.
In the women’s triples quarter-finals, defending champions Australia suffered a 14-10 defeat to New Zealand.
Australia lost in the defence of their Para mixed pairs title as they were beaten by Gold Coast bronze medallists Wales 13-10, who set up a final clash against Scotland, while England will face Australia in the bronze medal match.
NETBALL
Jamaica claimed their first ever Commonwealth Games win over Australia to top Pool A.
In a pulsating contest at the NEC, Jamaica edged to the 57-55 win as captain Jhaniele Fowler scored 47 points as her side progressed as pool winners with five wins from five, with Australia second after their first defeat.
That set up a fascinating subplot to England’s evening clash with New Zealand – with the winners knowing they would face pre-tournament favourites Australia in the semi-finals.
England made experience count as they sunk reigning world champions New Zealand 54-44 to book a semi-final against Australia.
England were never behind as they fashioned a one-point half-time advantage before pulling away to lead by six at end of the third quarter and staged another final quarter surge to secure a 10-point cushion.
In the day’s other matches, Wales beat Barbados 60-44, Trinidad and Tobago lost 41-32 to Northern Ireland and Uganda defeated Malawi 56-43.

Cricket – Commonwealth Games: Day 7
England will face India on Saturday with a place in the final at stake after routing New Zealand, chasing down a meagre 72 in just 11.4 overs to top Group B.
After a seven-wicket win in their most dominant display at Birmingham 2022 so far, England avoided a semi-final showdown against Australia, Group A winners and the overwhelming gold medal favourites.
But in spite of the absence of injured captain Heather Knight, England are gradually gaining in confidence after a disappointing winter as they recorded a sixth successive T20 victory this summer.
Katherine Brunt was almost unplayable in the powerplay, finishing with outstanding figures of 3-1-4-2, as New Zealand limped to 71 for nine before England cruised to their third consecutive group win.
South Africa confirmed third place in the group with a comprehensive 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.
Nadine de Klerk claimed three for seven as the Proteas bowled Sri Lanka out for just 46 before openers Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits knocked the runs off with more than 13 overs to spare.
HOCKEY
England maintained their perfect record with a 5-0 Pool A victory over Wales to set up a women’s semi-final against defending champions New Zealand on Friday.
Grace Baldson scored a hat-trick in a routine win for the hosts, who have racked up 21 goals in their four wins with just one conceded.
New Zealand beat South Africa 4-1 to record their third win from four to advance.
Gold Coast beaten finalists New Zealand lost 4-3 in their Pool A tie with South Africa, while England eased past Canada 11-2, India saw off Wales 4-1 and defending champions Australia won 7-0 in the final match of the day against Pakistan.

Badminton – Commonwealth Games: Day 7
Men’s singles world champion Kean Yew Loh cruised through to the last 16 with a 2-0 win over South Africa’s Robert Summers.
India’s Srikanth Kidambi, silver medallist four years ago, also eased through with victory over Uganda’s Daniel Wanagaliya.
In the women’s singles, Gold Coast silver medallist Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is also through after a 2-0 win over Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq of the Maldives.
SQUASH
Women’s singles champion Georgina Kennedy advanced to the mixed doubles round of 16 after she and Patrick Rooney saw off Malta’s Kijan and Lijana Sultana.
