Chelsea were made to work hard and left it late, but returned to Premier League action with a win by beating Crystal Palace in their first match as world champions.
Thomas Tuchel’s team were wearing the badge on their shirts earned with last week’s FIFA Club World Cup victory, but Abu Dhabi felt a long way away as we kicked off in the cold, wind and rain of Selhurst Park for this game, and for a long time it looked like we would be unable to overcome our opponents or the conditions to get the three points.

In an entertaining first 45 minutes, Antonio Rudiger and N’Golo Kante came close for Chelsea while at the other end, Wilfried Zaha spurned a good opportunity when he fired wide just before the break.
Chelsea thought they had finally scored with 15 minutes remaining, but Ziyech had his effort overturned following a VAR review.
However, the winger was not to be denied on 89 minutes as he volleyed in at the back post after Tyrick Mitchell had failed to deal with a Marcos Alonso cross.

Crystal Palace are 13th on 26 points while Chelsea remain third with 50 points, seven behind Liverpool in second.
After the match Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel said ,”’We did it and in the moment this is very important for us to reinstall a bit of more freedom and fluidity into our game. We look a bit drained, a bit exhausted. You can see that we try hard and everyone is looking for the flow, but in the moment we struggle, which is not a bad thing because everybody wants to be a part of it. Everybody gives his very best but we struggle a little bit and for that reason it’s very important to win and to have a clean sheet and we keep on going.’
