Gemini Notebook textbooks expand free study resources in India
Gemini Notebook textbooks are expanding Google's free study catalogue for students in India and the United States, according to reports on the update. Hundreds of books are being added for use within students' notebooks.
The collection draws on educational providers including OpenStax, Open Textbook Library and India's S Chand Publishing. Students can select a book from the catalogue rather than locating and uploading a separate textbook file.
The study tools work with the materials added to a notebook. Responses include citations within the answer and links back to the original content, allowing learners to inspect the passages behind an explanation.
Adding books and preparing revision material
To access Gemini Notebook textbooks, students begin by opening an existing notebook and choosing the option to add sources. They then select the textbook category, browse the collection and add the relevant title to their notebook.
Once the book is included, students can ask questions about its content or generate revision resources. Available formats include personalised study guides, practice quizzes and flashcards designed around the material.
The source references provide a way to check an answer against the textbook itself. Direct access to the underlying content also gives students a reference point when reviewing difficult topics or testing their understanding.
Google says the collection is available without an additional charge. The update broadens the academic materials accessible in the same place as the notebook's question-and-answer and revision functions.
The expansion follows Google's Expert Intelligence initiative, which was introduced the previous month to add more material backed by subject experts. Before this addition, students could already bring eligible e-books bought through Google Play Books into notebooks.
The new catalogue adds another route to using published educational content for study. It combines book selection, questions grounded in chosen sources and the preparation of revision aids within the notebook workflow.
