Gopichand Optimistic Ahead of BWF Worlds in Delhi

Chief National Coach Pullela Gopichand has expressed strong optimism about India's prospects at the BWF World Championships 2026, saying the country's badminton ecosystem has grown significantly since it last hosted the prestigious tournament 17 years ago.

Speaking after attending the championship draw ceremony, Gopichand said India now has multiple players capable of reaching the podium, reflecting the remarkable progress of Indian badminton on the global stage.
Commenting on the draws, Gopichand acknowledged that Ayush Shetty faces a difficult opening-round clash against world-class Chinese shuttler Shi Yuqi, but believes meeting the top seed early could work in the Indian's favour.

He also praised PV Sindhu, who recently impressed in Japan, expressing confidence that the two-time Olympic medallist can carry her momentum into the World Championships. Gopichand added that Unnati Hooda has received a favorable draw, raising hopes of a deep run in the tournament.

In men's doubles, the veteran coach backed the star pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, noting that their Singapore triumph and Satwik's return to full fitness after injury have boosted India's medal hopes.

Overall, Gopichand said he is "very optimistic and very positive" about India's campaign as the BWF World Championships 2026 return to Delhi, with expectations high for another memorable performance from the host nation.
