Greater Noida fall kills father and son; police examine circumstances
A Greater Noida fall left a 40-year-old man and his 11-year-old son dead on Friday morning after they reportedly slipped from their apartment balcony, police said. The incident occurred at Mahagun Mywoods in Greater Noida West.
Police identified the man as Randeep Patra. Both he and his son were taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries, where doctors declared them dead.
The apartment was on the 23rd floor of Tower 23 in the residential complex. The society is in Gaur City 2, within the area covered by Bisrakh police station.
Family account forms part of inquiry
According to police, Patra's wife said the family had planned to leave early for a visit to the Khatu Shyam temple. Before departure, the father and son went to the balcony to collect flowers for worship.
She told investigators that they were using a ladder to reach the flowers when they allegedly slipped. That account describes the reported sequence before the fall; police said they were still examining the circumstances.
The Greater Noida fall was brought to police attention through a police response vehicle. A team from Bisrakh station then went to the residential complex following the information.
Officers said the two were found with critical injuries after falling from the building and were immediately moved for medical treatment. Their deaths were subsequently confirmed at the hospital.
Police were completing inquest proceedings before sending the bodies for postmortem examination. Officials said the required legal formalities were also being carried out in connection with the deaths.
The preliminary account supplied by the family remains part of the police examination. The reports do not describe a concluded finding on the circumstances beyond the account of the balcony incident and the deaths confirmed at the hospital.
