Historic First Flight from Noida International Airport Carries Villagers Who Contributed Land for the Mega Project

A historic chapter in India's aviation and infrastructure journey unfolded on Monday as villagers whose ancestral lands were acquired for the development of Noida International Airport became part of the airport's inaugural commercial flight to Lucknow.

The first passengers included families from the Jewar region of Gautam Buddh Nagar who had contributed land for the airport's construction. For many, the journey symbolized the transformation of agricultural fields into one of India's most ambitious aviation projects.

Women, elderly villagers, and local residents arrived at the airport carrying boarding passes, eager to witness the beginning of commercial operations from the greenfield airport. A special welcome and interaction programme was organised in Lucknow for the farmer-benefactors who contributed their land for the development of Noida International Airport, Jewar. Arriving on the airport's first passenger flight to Lucknow, the farmers were warmly received by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who interacted with them and acknowledged their significant role in the realization of this landmark infrastructure project.

Several villagers described the occasion as an emotional and proud moment, saying they had seen the project evolve from an idea into reality. For many families, the inaugural flight represented not only improved connectivity but also the region's growing role in India's development story.

Some farmers who contributed significant portions of their land for the project expressed satisfaction at the airport's completion and the economic opportunities it is expected to generate for future generations.

Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh said the launch of passenger services was a tribute to the contribution and sacrifices made by local farming families. He noted that the same hands that once cultivated the land were now boarding aircraft from the very soil they had dedicated to the state's progress and national development.

The commencement of commercial operations at Noida International Airport marks a major milestone for India's civil aviation sector. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said the airport will have the capacity to handle approximately 1.2 crore passengers annually during its first phase. Upon full completion, the airport's annual passenger handling capacity is expected to exceed 7 crore, making it one of the country's largest aviation hubs.

The airport is expected to boost connectivity, attract investment, generate employment, and strengthen economic growth across Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region, while positioning Jewar as a key gateway for domestic and international travel.
