Uttam Kumar Film Centre has taken a major step towards becoming a reality with the foundation stone laying ceremony held in New Town. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the proposed film centre on Friday morning. Actor Mithun Chakraborty and veteran actor Ranjit Mallick also participated in the Bhoomi Puja ceremony.

The state government has allocated ₹25 crore for the construction of the Uttam Kumar Film Centre. The ambitious project is planned as a major destination for cinema, entertainment, culture and modern film technology.

Uttam Kumar Film Centre to Have Three Major Sections

The proposed Uttam Kumar Film Centre will be developed in three major sections, with facilities planned for audiences, cultural programmes and professionals associated with the film industry.

Two 750-Seat Cinema Halls and Preview Theatre
The first section of the film centre will feature two cinema halls with a combined capacity of 750 seats. A preview theatre will also be part of this section.

The facility will additionally include a food court and car parking area, providing visitors with basic amenities alongside the cinema and entertainment facilities.

1,000-Seat Auditorium and Open-Air Theatre

The second section will focus on large-scale cultural and entertainment events. It will include a 1,000-seat auditorium along with an open-air theatre.

The auditorium is expected to provide space for film-related programmes, cultural events and other stage performances. The open-air theatre will offer another venue for public and cultural activities.

Animation, VFX, Gaming and Post-Production Facilities

The third and technologically focused section will house facilities related to the modern entertainment industry.

According to the project plan, the centre will include infrastructure for animation, visual effects, gaming, comics and Extended Reality (XR). A laboratory and studio for film post-production will also be developed.

With these facilities, the Uttam Kumar Film Centre is being planned not merely as a cinema exhibition venue but as a broader hub for different aspects of filmmaking and entertainment technology.

Construction Work to Begin After Monsoon

The Chief Minister said that the soil testing work has already been completed, while the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently being prepared.

According to the plans outlined at the foundation ceremony, construction work is expected to begin after the monsoon. The Chief Minister also expressed hope that people would be impressed when the completed project takes shape.

The ₹25-crore allocation marks the state's financial commitment to developing the proposed centre in New Town.
