Iga Swiatek dedicated her National Bank Open title in Toronto to people dealing with unfair judgment and hate, delivering an emotional message after securing a major victory.
Swiatek defeated Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in the final to claim the Toronto title and end a year-long wait for a WTA singles trophy.
Reflecting on her journey, the Polish star admitted that the past few months had been challenging, particularly while dealing with criticism and opinions about her on social media.

“I’m really happy about this tournament. It means so so much to me. These past months were not easy,” Swiatek said.
The former world No. 1 said she remained focused on improving her game despite the criticism, adding that the support of people close to her helped her stay grounded.

“I’m really happy I kept focusing on growing, changing my game a little bit, improving… despite all the opinions many people have about me every day on the internet,” she said.
Swiatek stressed that the reality of her life is different from the negativity that can often dominate online discussions.

“The reality is that I have people that know me so well and people that support me. They’re here to give their best work. Just keep pushing you know,” she added.

The 25-year-old then dedicated her Toronto triumph to anyone facing similar negativity.
“I want to dedicate this title to anyone who’s dealing with unfair judgement and hate. Just keep pushing and keep growing. Keep focusing on yourself,” Swiatek said.

She also urged people facing criticism to remember their potential and focus on what lies ahead.

“You know what’s the best for you, always remember what’s ahead and what might be possible,” she added.

Swiatek’s Toronto triumph therefore carried significance beyond the title itself, marking both a return to winning form and a powerful statement about resilience in the face of online criticism.
