Iga Swiatek Dominates Rybakina to Win National Bank Open

Iga Swiatek produced a commanding performance in Toronto, defeating world No. 2 Elena Rybakina 6-2, 6-3 in just 75 minutes to win the 2026 National Bank Open. The victory marks Swiatek’s first WTA title of the season and the 26th singles title of her career.

The former world No. 1 controlled the final from the opening exchanges, immediately putting pressure on Rybakina’s serve and using her trademark heavy baseline game to dictate rallies. Swiatek took the opening set 6-2 in just 29 minutes and never allowed her opponent to settle into a rhythm.

Rybakina, the tournament’s second seed and one of the biggest servers on the WTA Tour, struggled to counter Swiatek’s court coverage and consistency. Swiatek also remained composed when faced with opportunities on her own serve, refusing to give the Kazakh a route back into the contest.

Swiatek Seals Victory in Second Set
The second set followed a similar pattern. After the players exchanged holds early on, Swiatek broke Rybakina at 2-2 and quickly established control. She maintained the pressure through the closing games before serving out the match to complete a straight-sets victory.

The Toronto triumph is particularly significant given Swiatek’s struggles earlier in the season. Before this tournament, she had not reached a final since her title-winning run in Seoul last September and had slipped to No. 8 in the world rankings.

Her route to the Toronto title included victories over four Top-20 opponents: Marta Kostyuk, Diana Shnaider, Elina Svitolina and Rybakina, underlining the quality of her run.
12th WTA 1000 Crown

Swiatek’s latest triumph also strengthens her place among the most successful players in WTA 1000 history. The Toronto title is her 12th WTA 1000 crown, moving her ahead of Aryna Sabalenka’s 11 and leaving her second on the all-time list behind Serena Williams’ 13.

The victory also completes Swiatek’s career sweep of the five major North American hard-court tournaments: Indian Wells, Miami, the US Open, Cincinnati and the National Bank Open.

With the US Open hard-court swing now approaching, Swiatek’s emphatic Toronto performance could prove to be a major turning point in her 2026 campaign. After months without a title, she has reminded the WTA Tour that she remains a formidable force on hard courts.
