India IMF Relations Strengthen Through Economic Cooperation Talks

India IMF Relations came into focus as Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman met Nigel Clarke, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), in New Delhi. Clarke is currently on a visit to India.

The meeting focused on strengthening engagement between India and the IMF, with discussions covering macroeconomic cooperation, economic growth, fiscal policy, trade and the changing global economic environment.

Both sides also reviewed India’s role in supporting the South Asia Regional Training and Technical Assistance Center (SARTTAC) and emphasised the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen economic resilience at both regional and global levels.

Nirmala Sitharaman Meets IMF Deputy Managing Director

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held discussions with IMF Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke during his visit to India.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress and future direction of India IMF Relations, particularly at a time when the global economy is experiencing significant shifts.

The discussions covered both bilateral engagement and broader developments affecting the global economic outlook.

Focus on India-IMF Engagement

Sitharaman and Clarke discussed the importance of continued India-IMF engagement in strengthening macroeconomic cooperation.

India’s Role in Supporting SARTTAC

An important aspect of the meeting was appreciation for India’s role in supporting SARTTAC.

The South Asia Regional Training and Technical Assistance Center is a platform focused on capacity development and technical assistance in the region.

India’s support for the initiative was acknowledged during the discussions.

The conversation highlighted the value of continued cooperation between India and the IMF in strengthening economic capabilities and supporting sound policy frameworks across the region.
