India Resumes Tourist Visas for Bangladesh from June 28

India will resume general tourist visa services for Bangladeshi citizens from June 28, 2026, ending a nearly two-year suspension and marking a significant step toward restoring normal travel between the two neighbouring countries.

The announcement was made on June 25, 2026, by Dinesh Trivedi, the newly appointed Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, during a press conference at the Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC) in Jamuna Future Park, Dhaka.

Speaking at the event, Trivedi said the resumption of tourist visa services reflects India's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing people-to-people connectivity between the two nations.

Tourist visa services had remained suspended for nearly two years, with only limited categories such as medical, business and emergency visas being processed during the period. The reopening of general tourist visas is expected to facilitate travel for thousands of Bangladeshi citizens visiting India for tourism, family visits, education, shopping and other purposes.

The move is also seen as a positive development in efforts to normalise India-Bangladesh relations. Easier travel is expected to boost cultural exchanges, tourism, trade and economic cooperation while reinforcing long-standing ties between the neighbouring countries.

The decision is likely to benefit travellers on both sides of the border and further strengthen diplomatic engagement as New Delhi and Dhaka continue to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
