Kapil Sibal Condemns Alleged Attack on Abhishek Banerjee, Calls It ‘Violence of Democracy’
Senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal has strongly criticized the BJP-led government over the alleged attack on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Abhishek Banerjee, calling the incident a troubling reflection of the state of democracy in the country.
Reacting to the incident, Sibal said that such events are taking place under the BJP's tenure and questioned the silence of senior leaders. He remarked that the alleged attack represents the "scene of a developed India" and warned that it reflects what could lie ahead in the coming years if such incidents continue unchecked.
The Rajya Sabha MP also alleged that the attack appeared to be premeditated, claiming that stone-pelting had been planned in advance. He criticized the lack of immediate action against those responsible and questioned why the alleged perpetrator had not been arrested.
Sibal further stated that senior BJP leaders, including Union Home Minister and West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, should have publicly condemned the incident. Calling the episode "violence of democracy," he emphasized the need for accountability and protection of democratic values.
The alleged attack has intensified the political confrontation between the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal, with both sides trading accusations over law and order and political violence in the state.
