New Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan Pledges Stronger Maritime Security

The Indian Navy entered a new chapter on Sunday as Admiral Krishna Swaminathan formally assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), pledging to strengthen operational readiness, accelerate modernisation, and safeguard India's maritime interests in an increasingly complex security environment.

Addressing personnel after taking command, Admiral Swaminathan described his appointment as the highest honour and privilege of his life, expressing deep gratitude to the nation's leadership for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Indian Navy.

"I assume command today as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff with a deep sense of humility, responsibility, pride, and gratitude," he said.

The new Navy Chief emphasized that the Indian Navy remains vigilant in protecting national interests across the maritime domain and continues to operate actively in a regional security environment marked by uncertainty, unpredictability, and evolving challenges.

Admiral Swaminathan stated that maintaining the highest levels of operational readiness and combat effectiveness would be his foremost priority, ensuring that the Navy remains fully prepared to protect India's security and economic interests wherever required.

Highlighting the Navy's ongoing transformation, he noted that the force is already on a strong trajectory of capability enhancement and modernisation. He pledged to sustain the momentum of key programs, strengthen ongoing initiatives, and accelerate the induction of niche and emerging technologies to sharpen the Navy's operational capabilities.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as India continues to expand its maritime footprint, enhance indigenous defence manufacturing, and strengthen its role as a key security provider in the Indian Ocean Region.

Under Admiral Swaminathan's leadership, the Indian Navy is expected to continue focusing on technological innovation, fleet modernisation, strategic partnerships, and mission readiness to address emerging regional and global security challenges.
