Madan Mitra Slams Rebel TMC MLAs, Mocks Opposition Bid and ED Summons to Abhishek Banerjee

Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Madan Mitra launched a sharp attack on the rebel legislators who have claimed opposition status in the West Bengal Assembly while continuing to acknowledge Mamata Banerjee as their leader.

Using a popular Bengali song as a metaphor, Mitra ridiculed the dissident MLAs, questioning how they could simultaneously identify with TMC and function as an opposition bloc.

"There is a Bengali song, 'Are Chho Chho Kya Saramke Baat, Bhadr Ki Ladki Bhaage Driver Ke Saath'. The driver has some shame, but not these people. They are saying Mamata Banerjee is our leader, but we have formed an opposition to TMC. How is this possible?

They are without a party," Mitra said.
Commenting on the resignation of Firhad Hakim as Mayor of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Mitra said the decision was taken following Hakim's own request and with the approval of the party leadership.

"He expressed his desire to step down and the party said, 'Yes, you can'," Mitra remarked.

On the Enforcement Directorate (ED) issuing summons to TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Mitra dismissed the development with sarcasm.

"Letters will keep coming. Otherwise, how would the post office function?" he said, downplaying the significance of the ED notice.

Mitra's comments come amid ongoing political turbulence in West Bengal, where internal divisions within the ruling TMC and investigations involving senior leaders continue to dominate the political discourse.
