Mamata Banerjee Delhi Visit for INDIA Bloc President Meet
The Mamata Banerjee Delhi Visit comes as the INDIA bloc seeks an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu to present its concerns regarding the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process. The alliance has sought a meeting between October 7 and 9, with Banerjee expected to be part of the delegation.
Mamata Banerjee Explains Delhi Visit
Speaking in Kolkata, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was travelling to Delhi after being requested by other INDIA bloc leaders to attend.
Banerjee said she had initially considered sending Abhishek Banerjee in her place but later agreed to make the trip after the alliance urged her to attend. She said her name had been included in the list of leaders seeking an appointment with the President.
INDIA Bloc Seeks Meeting With President
The INDIA bloc has sought time with President Droupadi Murmu for a delegation to raise concerns related to the Election Commission and the SIR process. Reports indicate that the President's Secretariat has asked the opposition alliance to restrict the delegation to 10 leaders.
Banerjee said that given the ongoing political movement, she felt it would not be appropriate for her to remain absent, particularly as people in Bengal wanted her to attend.
Mamata Says She Will Attend Despite Puja Season
Banerjee also referred to the ongoing Puja season, saying that although people were busy with the festivities, she needed to make the Delhi trip.
She said she did not know what other programmes might follow during the visit but maintained that she would attend if the President granted the requested appointment.
The President's appointment was not formally confirmed at the time of the latest reports.
