Messi trains alone as Argentina begin FIFA World Cup preparations
Musscle fatigue prevented Argentina captain Lionel Messi from training with the team as the title holders launched preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.
The 39-year old worked has been sidelined with the muscle complaint since May 24, during his time at MLS club Inter Miami but is expected to be fit for Argentina's opening match against Algeria on June 16.
On Tuesday, the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner trained individually under the supervision of the team's fitness staff, while the rest of the Argentina squad participated in a full training session.
Team officials did not indicate any major concern over Messi's fitness, with the individual programme understood to be part of workload management ahead of the tournament.
Having led Argetina to their third title in the previous edition, Messi remains central to the South American side's glory in the tournament beginning on June 11.
"The players who are suffering from niggles and injuries continue to work with the physiotherapy team on specific exercises on the pitch and are making good progress," Argentina's Football Association said.
Argentina take on Honduras on Saturday in a warm-up friendly against Honduras, followed by their final warm-up game against Iceland on June 9.
The Albiceleste begin campaign against Austria on June 22 and then face Jordan on June 27.
