Modi and De Wever Hold Bilateral Talks to Deepen India-Belgium Partnership

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Prime Minister Bart De Wever of Belgium in New Delhi today, with both leaders reviewing the full spectrum of India-Belgium relations and discussing ways to further strengthen the multifaceted partnership between the two countries.

The discussions focused on several strategic and emerging areas, including defence, trade, investment, innovation, semiconductors, fintech and critical minerals. The two leaders also underlined the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties as well as cooperation in academic and research fields.

Modi and De Wever exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the close relationship between India and Belgium.

Bilateral Trade to Double in Five Years

A key outcome of the talks was the agreement by both sides to double bilateral trade over the next five years. The two countries also agreed to establish a Business Forum, Investment Forum and Consular Dialogue to strengthen institutional mechanisms for greater economic and people-to-people engagement.

The initiatives are expected to provide fresh momentum to business-to-business ties, investment flows and consular cooperation between India and Belgium.

MoUs Exchanged in Key Areas

The two leaders also witnessed the exchange of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at expanding bilateral cooperation.

Renewable energy

Combating crime

Diplomatic training

The agreements reflect the expanding scope of India-Belgium cooperation beyond traditional areas and highlight the two countries' focus on emerging strategic and economic priorities.

The meeting marked another significant step towards strengthening the India-Belgium partnership, with both sides seeking to build closer cooperation across trade, technology, investment, security, energy, education and diplomatic engagement.
