Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing Visits Bodh Gaya, Offers Prayers at Mahabodhi Temple

Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing visited the sacred Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya today, where he offered prayers at one of Buddhism’s holiest sites.

The visit highlighted the enduring spiritual, cultural, and civilizational bonds between India and Myanmar, rooted in a shared Buddhist heritage that has connected the peoples of both nations for centuries. Bodh Gaya, revered as the place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, continues to serve as a symbol of peace, faith, and global Buddhist unity.

During his visit, President U Min Aung Hlaing paid homage at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Mahabodhi Temple, reflecting Myanmar’s deep reverence for Buddhist traditions and its longstanding cultural ties with India.

The visit is seen as a significant gesture reinforcing the historical relationship between the two neighboring countries, while further promoting people-to-people connections, spiritual tourism, and cultural exchange. It also underscores the important role of Buddhism as a bridge of friendship and mutual understanding between India and Myanmar.

As one of the world's most important pilgrimage destinations, Bodh Gaya continues to attract leaders, monks, and devotees from across the Buddhist world, strengthening its position as a global center of Buddhist heritage and diplomacy.
