IndiGo Flight 6E 579 Makes Emergency Landing in Delhi After Mid-Air Engine Failure, All Passengers Safe

A potentially serious mid-air situation was averted on Saturday, March 28, 2026, when an IndiGo flight operating from Visakhapatnam to New Delhi executed a safe emergency landing at Indira Gandhi International Airport following an engine failure.

Flight 6E 579 reported a technical issue mid-air, prompting the crew to declare a full emergency at approximately 10:39 AM. According to officials, the pilots detected an “uncommanded No. 1 engine inflight shutdown” caused by unusually high engine vibrations.

The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-800, bearing registration TC-CON. The 15-year-old plane was wet-leased from Turkey’s Corendon Airlines, a detail now under scrutiny as part of the investigation.

Demonstrating strong adherence to safety protocols, the flight crew successfully landed the aircraft using a single engine on Runway 28 at around 10:54 AM. The plane was later moved to parking stand 137 at Terminal 1 without further incident.

There were approximately 161 passengers and crew members onboard, all of whom were reported safe. No injuries were recorded, and passengers were safely deplaned following standard safety procedures.

IndiGo described the incident as a “technical snag” detected shortly before landing, emphasizing that the pilots followed all standard operating procedures and requested a priority landing as a precaution.

Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the engine shutdown and has grounded the aircraft for a comprehensive inspection. An investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the malfunction.

A detailed technical analysis will now be carried out by aviation authorities and engineers. The findings are expected to shed light on whether the issue was due to mechanical failure, maintenance lapses, or external factors.

The incident once again highlights the importance of strict aviation safety protocols and the preparedness of flight crews to handle emergencies effectively.
