“Dostlik” Symbolises India-Uzbekistan Friendship, PM Modi Says After Receiving Highest Honour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude after being honoured with Uzbekistan’s highest award during his visit to Tashkent, describing the recognition as a moment of great pride.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi highlighted the significance of the Uzbek word “Dostlik,” meaning friendship, and its deep resonance with the people of India.

“You used a word, ‘Dostlik,’ with which the people of India are also very familiar,” PM Modi said, noting that the word “Dost,” meaning friend, is commonly used in Indian households.

The Prime Minister said that Dostlik perfectly captures the spirit of the relationship between India and Uzbekistan, reflecting the longstanding friendship and close ties between the two nations.

PM Modi also emphasised that the honour was not for him alone but represented the people of India.

“This honour is not for a single individual; it is an honour for all 1.4 billion Indians.”

On behalf of his fellow citizens, PM Modi conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the people and government of Uzbekistan, as well as President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The award and PM Modi’s remarks underscored the growing warmth and strategic importance of India-Uzbekistan relations, with friendship and mutual respect continuing to form the foundation of bilateral ties.
