Priyanka Chopra Shares Her Success Mantra: “Preparation and Hard Work Come First”

By Editorial Team 👁 33

Priyanka Chopra’s enduring success is neither the result of nepotism nor simply tied to her marriage to a global pop star. The Bollywood star has spent years putting in relentless effort to build her international career and financial success. At the heart of it all, she says, is unwavering hard work and commitment to her craft.

During a recent conversation with her business partner Anjula Acharia to close India Week at Harvard Business School, the Barfi! actor reflected on the importance of preparation and self-worth. “I am a big homework and prep girl; anything I do, I prepare and work for it. I do not believe in going somewhere unprepared. It should look spontaneous, but it does not need to be. That’s the art,” she said.

She also spoke about staying grounded amid criticism. According to Chopra, she refuses to let others define her capabilities. “I don’t let myself get defined by someone else’s opinion of what I can do, or of my calibre. My calibre depends on my hard work and focus,” she explained. Over time, she has learned to center her energy on mastering her craft. “What you know, or the knowledge you own, can never be taken away from you. Opportunities might, but if you know your craft and your value, you can take that anywhere.”

Understanding Priyanka Chopra’s Mindset

Counselling psychologist Srishti Vatsa believes Chopra’s confidence stems not merely from fame, but from the process of building herself through consistent effort. In her view, success is not measured by struggle alone but by sustained discipline, gratitude, and humility.

“That kind of self-assurance doesn’t come from fame. It comes from doing the work, failing, trying again, and persisting. Every time you do the hard thing without needing applause, you build that confidence,” Vatsa told indianexpress.com.

Rutuja Walawalkar, psychologist at Mpower, Aditya Birla Education Trust, added that how individuals interpret their efforts significantly shapes both performance and emotional resilience. Hard work, she noted, is meaningful effort directed toward a goal — requiring discipline, persistence, and sacrifice.

When effort is viewed as purposeful rather than endless struggle, it fosters perseverance without burnout. It encourages people to appreciate small milestones and remain aligned with their core values.

Gratitude and humility, Walawalkar explained, play a powerful role in this process. Gratitude reframes effort as a privilege rather than a burden, helping individuals focus on available resources and support systems. Humility, meanwhile, keeps success in perspective. Recognizing that achievements stem not only from personal effort but also from opportunity, guidance, and teamwork helps reduce ego-driven pressure and prevents over-identifying with hardship.
