In his letter, Rahul Gandhi described the incident as a "barbaric assault" and said the alleged use of force against peaceful protesters was unacceptable in a democratic society.
"I write to demand accountability for the barbaric assault on students who were peacefully protesting in Delhi on July 20, 2026," Gandhi stated in the letter.
He further emphasized that peaceful protest is a fundamental pillar of democracy and expressed concern over the reported violence against students.
"Peaceful protest is crucial to any democracy. Such brutal violence destroys every norm, and has outraged the country. Youth and students, the future of our country, are demanding answers and accountability. Their voice will be heard," the letter added.
Rahul Gandhi's letter comes amid continuing political debate over the handling of the student protests, with the Congress demanding a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible. The Centre has not yet issued an official response to the letter.
