India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore during his visit to Humboldt University of Berlin, underscoring the poet’s enduring role in strengthening cultural ties between India and Germany.
Sharing his reflections on social media, Singh described Tagore as a “gifted personality in several fields” whose contributions helped forge deep cultural and people-to-people connections—laying the foundation for the multifaceted partnership between the two nations.
During the visit, a rare recording of Tagore’s 1921 speech was played at the university. In the historic address, Tagore spoke about India’s civilisational ethos, emphasizing unity in diversity and delivering a timeless message of harmony and bliss.
Singh noted that Tagore’s clarity of thought and expression continues to inspire generations across the world, reinforcing India’s cultural legacy on the global stage.
The tribute at Humboldt University highlights the continued relevance of Tagore’s philosophy in modern diplomacy and cultural engagement, especially in strengthening Indo-German relations.
