Cristiano Ronaldo's mother has sent an emotional message of support to his son ahead of Portugal's World Cup Round of 32 clash against Croatia.

In a video, Maria Dolores dos Santos said she was proud of her son's achievements and thanked supporters who have stood by him throughout his illustrious career.

Ronaldo became the first male footballer tomscore in six different editions of the World Cup during Portugal's group stage.

“I am so proud that my son continues to make history. I want to thank all the fans who have always stood by you. You give so much to the world," she wrote.

Ronaldo score twice in Portugal's win Iover Uzbekistan, also extending his own records as the highest scorer and most-capped player in men's international football.

“A kiss for you, my son. Your mom will always be by your side. I also want to thank everyone for the respect they show him," Ronaldo’s mom said.
