Russia Ukraine strikes intensify after local Kherson truce ends
Russia Ukraine strikes intensified after a local ceasefire in Kherson ended, with Moscow reporting drone interceptions and Ukrainian authorities describing overnight attacks on Tuesday, November 3. Officials in Kharkiv said 25 people were injured when a medical facility was struck.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air defences had brought down nearly 500 drones approaching the capital. That figure was attributed to his account; the reports did not provide independent confirmation.
The attacks followed the end of a limited pause in fighting in southern Ukraine's Kherson region on November 1. The ceasefire had allowed a humanitarian mission to reach Russian-occupied Oleshky.
Kharkiv patients face evacuation after strike
Kharkiv regional administration head Oleg Synegubov reported damage to a passageway linking buildings at the medical facility in the Nemyshlianskyi district. Windows, cars and a building were also damaged, according to local authorities.
He said preliminary information indicated that 200 patients would need to move to other medical facilities. Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov warned residents about an attack involving ballistic missiles and guided aerial bombs.
The Russia Ukraine strikes also triggered warnings for other cities. Ukraine's military reported ballistic missile threats towards Kyiv, Dnipro and Sumy as well as Kharkiv.
Dnipropetrovsk's governor said critical infrastructure in Dnipro and Kryvy Rig had been hit. Poland activated air defences to protect its airspace, particularly near the Ukrainian border.
After the Kherson ceasefire expired, a Russian strike on a Zaporizhzhia village killed at least 26 people, the acting regional governor said. The pause had been described as the longest of the war that began in February 2022.
US envoy Steve Witkoff said Washington-led talks between Russia and Ukraine were expected to resume the following week. President Donald Trump's push for a settlement had yet to produce a breakthrough.
