Sebaashray Row: WB CM Suvendu Adhikari Alleges Serious Irregularities, Orders Multi-Agency Probe

Sebaashray Row dominated proceedings in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly on Saturday after Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made a series of allegations regarding the functioning of Sebaashray medical camps. Addressing the House, the Chief Minister alleged large-scale irregularities in the organisation of the camps and announced a multi-agency investigation into the matter.

During his statement, Adhikari accused those associated with the programme of violating medical protocols, misusing government resources, and endangering patients' lives. He also warned that strict legal action would follow if the allegations are substantiated through the ongoing investigation.

Chief Minister Levels Allegations Against Abhishek Banerjee

Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister targeted Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee over the Sebaashray Row. Without holding back, Adhikari alleged that "murders were committed in the name of Sebaashray" and referred to the Trinamool Congress leader as a "cheating nephew."

He claimed that the alleged irregularities were serious enough to warrant criminal investigation and said the law would take its course if sufficient evidence was established.

FIRs Registered, Investigation Underway

According to the Chief Minister, multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) have already been registered at Bishnupur Police Station in connection with the alleged irregularities.

The Chief Minister alleged that ultrasound machines and X-ray equipment belonging to government hospitals were used outside authorised medical facilities without proper approval.
He further claimed that government doctors and medical college students were deployed at the camps in violation of established rules and administrative procedures.

According to Adhikari, these actions raised serious concerns regarding patient safety, regulatory compliance, and the misuse of public healthcare infrastructure.

Claims of Seized Medical Equipment and Expired Medicines

While presenting his statement, the Chief Minister alleged that investigators recovered medical equipment and expired medicines from a warehouse reportedly linked to Dilip Mondal.
He also read out a letter purportedly written by a doctor describing alleged irregularities in the organisation and functioning of the Sebaashray camps.

Additionally, Adhikari displayed photographs in the Assembly of patients who, according to his claims, allegedly suffered severe medical complications, including limb loss, following treatment at some of the camps.

These allegations have not yet been adjudicated in court, and the ongoing investigation is expected to determine the veracity of the claims.

Health Department Asked to Examine Allegations
The Chief Minister informed the Assembly that the Health Secretary has been directed to conduct a detailed examination of the matter.

The Health Department is expected to review whether standard medical protocols were followed, whether government resources were used legally, and whether any lapses occurred during the conduct of the medical camps.

Officials are also expected to examine documentation related to medical equipment, medicines, staffing, and patient treatment records.

Legal Action Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Adhikari asserted that if the allegations are substantiated during the investigation, stringent legal action would be initiated under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

He stated that no individual found responsible would be spared and assured the Assembly that the investigation would be carried out impartially and in accordance with the law.

The Chief Minister maintained that accountability in the healthcare system remains a priority and that any misuse of government resources or violation of medical standards would invite strict action.
