Suvendu Adhikari Eco Park Banned Cough Syrup Destruction 2026 marked another major anti-drug drive in West Bengal, as around 3.10 lakh bottles of banned cough syrup were destroyed at Eco Park in New Town on Wednesday. The programme was organised under the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029’ campaign, with West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari taking part in the symbolic destruction operation. Reports said the seized cough syrup was valued at approximately ₹31 crore.

The latest action came shortly after a similar destruction drive in Balurghat, where nearly two lakh bottles of seized cough syrup were destroyed earlier this month. The two operations are part of the administration’s stated efforts to intensify action against illegal drugs and drug trafficking in the state.

3.10 Lakh Banned Cough Syrup Bottles Destroyed

During the programme at Eco Park, around 3.10 lakh bottles of banned cough syrup were destroyed using heavy machinery. According to reports, the seized stock had an estimated value of nearly ₹31 crore.

Police Commissionerate as part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 campaign. The destruction was presented as a symbolic message against the illegal trade and distribution of banned cough syrup in West Bengal.

News reports identified the seized substance as cough syrup, including Phensedyl/codeine-based products. Authorities have been conducting seizures and joint operations against narcotics and illegal drug networks across the state.

Suvendu Adhikari Takes Part in Destruction Drive

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari personally participated in the destruction programme at Eco Park. Reports described him operating the heavy machinery used to crush the seized bottles.

The programme follows a similar event held in Balurghat on September 2, when the Chief Minister, along with Union Minister of State for Education and Balurghat MP Sukanta Majumdar, operated a road roller over nearly two lakh seized bottles of banned cough syrup.

The Balurghat action was also conducted under the Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 campaign and was presented as part of efforts to prevent drug addiction among young people.

What Is Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029?

The Nasha Mukt Bharat 2029 campaign focuses on preventing drug addiction and tackling the illegal drug trade. The initiative has been linked to efforts to protect young people from substance abuse and strengthen coordination among law-enforcement agencies.

At the Eco Park programme, Adhikari said that making West Bengal drug-free was a priority of his government. He also highlighted coordination among agencies including the BSF, West Bengal Police, STF, Narcotics Control Bureau, Kolkata Police and other central agencies in efforts to curb the drug menace.
