Algeria, managed by former Switzerland coach Vladimir Petkovic, managed to keep the deficit at one goal until half-time. However, Switzerland struck again just a minute after the restart. Dan Ndoye controlled Rafik Belghali's attempted clearance inside the box and coolly slotted past goalkeeper Luca Zidane to double the lead.
Switzerland remained in complete control throughout the second half, limiting Algeria to few meaningful opportunities while extending their impressive run to just one defeat in their last 17 matches.
The victory sends Switzerland into the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive tournament. They will remain in Vancouver to face either Colombia or Ghana on 7 July.
