Indian athletics star Tejaswin Shankar created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games, clinching a remarkable bronze medal at Glasgow 2026.

The 27-year-old national record holder showcased extraordinary determination over two demanding days of competition, finishing with 7,976 points despite battling chronic patellar tendinitis, commonly known as "jumper's knee." The injury had forced him to withdraw from the standalone high jump event earlier in the Games, but it did little to stop his pursuit of history.

Outstanding Performance Across 10 Events

Shankar began strongly on Day 1 with a personal-best long jump of 7.82m, earning 1,015 points. He followed it up by clearing 2.15m in the high jump and clocking 49.51 seconds in the 400m, ending the opening day in second place overall with 4,339 points.

On Day 2, he continued his impressive campaign by recording a personal best of 40.44m in the discus throw and a season-best 53.12m in the javelin throw, keeping himself firmly in the medal race. He sealed the historic bronze with a determined 4:36.19 finish in the 1,500m, the final event of the decathlon.
