PM Modi Congratulates Tejaswin Shankar on Historic CWG Bronze

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Indian athlete Tejaswin Shankar for scripting history by winning the bronze medal in the men's decathlon at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.

Sharing his message on social media, the Prime Minister praised Shankar's remarkable achievement and highlighted the growing success of Indian athletes on the global stage.
"Indian athletes continue to create history and make our nation proud! Tejaswin Shankar wins a Bronze in the Men's Decathlon event at the Glasgow CWG. He delivered an exceptional all-round performance across 10 events. Congrats to him. May he continue to shine. My best wishes."

Tejaswin Shankar became the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in the men's decathlon, finishing with 7,976 points after two days of intense competition. Battling through injury, the 27-year-old produced a series of outstanding performances across all 10 events to secure a historic place on the podium.

The achievement also makes Shankar the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win Commonwealth Games medals in two different disciplines, following his bronze medal in the high jump at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

Prime Minister Modi's congratulatory message reflects the nation's pride in Shankar's resilience, determination, and historic accomplishment, which adds another memorable chapter to India's athletics success at Glasgow 2026.
