“Billy Butcher confronts Homelander in The Boys finale”

The Boys Finale Explained: Deaths and Ending Twist

The finale of The Boys has finally arrived, bringing an explosive end to one of the most violent and unpredictable superhero series ever made. Streaming now on Amazon Prime Video, the final episode closes the story of Billy Butcher’s war against Homelander after five intense seasons.

Packed with brutal action, emotional moments and shocking betrayals, the finale answers the biggest questions fans had before the ending. From Homelander’s downfall to Billy Butcher’s tragic final decision, here is a full breakdown of what happened in the last episode.

Homelander becomes unstoppable

The finale begins with Homelander becoming more dangerous than ever after injecting himself with V1. With his powers amplified, Homelander declares himself a god-like figure and plans to eliminate everyone who refuses to follow him.

As chaos spreads across America, Butcher and The Boys prepare for one final mission to stop him before it is too late.

Kimiko becomes the ultimate weapon

Frenchie’s experiments on Kimiko Miyashiro create a possible solution against Homelander. Kimiko develops abilities similar to Soldier Boy, including the power to neutralise supes.

This becomes the key advantage for The Boys during the final confrontation at the White House.

All major deaths in The Boys finale

Oh Father dies during the White House attack

Oh Father attempts to stop Butcher and his team after they infiltrate the White House. However, Hughie and MM manage to overpower him in a brutal fight, killing him before he can protect Homelander.

The Deep is killed by sea creatures

The Deep meets a horrifying end after fighting Annie, also known as Starlight, on a beach. After Annie pushes him into the ocean, sea creatures swarm and kill him, completing his dark character arc.

Homelander is finally defeated

The biggest moment of the finale arrives when Billy Butcher confronts Homelander during a live White House broadcast.

Ryan joins the fight, and together with Kimiko’s supe-neutralising blast, they strip Homelander of his powers. Butcher then kills him with a crowbar in front of live cameras, ending his reign once and for all.

Billy Butcher’s ending explained

Even after defeating Homelander, Butcher believes superheroes themselves remain a danger to humanity. He steals the supe-killing virus and plans to destroy all supes worldwide.

Hughie follows him to Vought Tower and tries to stop him from committing genocide. During the emotional confrontation, Hughie mistakenly believes Butcher is about to release the virus and shoots him.

In reality, Butcher had changed his mind moments earlier, making his death even more tragic.

Who wins in The Boys finale?

Billy Butcher technically wins because he succeeds in killing Homelander and stopping his dictatorship. However, his victory comes at the cost of his own life and leaves the surviving characters emotionally broken.

The ending of The Boys delivers a dark but emotional conclusion, staying true to the brutal tone that defined the series from the beginning.
