TMC Dissolves All Bengal Committees Amid Revolt by Rebel MLAs, Launches Major Organisational Overhaul
The Trinamool Congress on Wednesday dissolved all its committees in West Bengal, including those of its frontal organisations, with immediate effect, in a major organisational overhaul aimed to mitigate the mutiny within its ranks triggered by rebelling MLAs.
At least 58 of its 80 MLAs have picked Ritabrata Banerjee as their pick for Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, defying the party’s chosen candidate Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay.
TMC has suspended Banerjee and fellow MLA Sandipan Saha for alleged anti-party activities after they claimed that their signatures were forged on the official letter conveyed to the Speaker to identify Chattopadhyay as LoP.
"After careful consideration, it has been decided that all committees of the All India Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, as well as all its frontal organisations, shall stand dissolved with immediate effect," TMC said on its social media platforms.
"The party will undertake a comprehensive exercise of introspection, performance review and organisational assessment at every level. Based on the findings of this exercise, the organisational structure of the parent body and all frontal organisations will be reconstituted and announced in due course."
TMC insisted that the move is aimed at strengthening the organisation and preparing it to face future challenges with renewed vigour and purpose after being thrown out of power following a crushing poll defeat to BJP.
"The party remains committed to strengthening its organisation and preparing it to meet future challenges with renewed vigour and purpose," it said.
