Calcutta High Court Allows Two TMCP Factions to Hold Foundation Day Programmes

TMCP Foundation Day programmes will be organised by two factions of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) in Kolkata on August 28 after the Calcutta High Court granted conditional permission for both groups to hold separate events.

However, neither faction has been permitted to organise its programme at Mayo Road, where both groups had initially sought permission to hold their respective Foundation Day gatherings.

Calcutta High Court Allows Separate TMCP Programmes

The Calcutta High Court granted permission for both factions during a hearing on Tuesday before Justice Sougata Bhattacharyya.

Both groups had approached the court seeking permission to organise their TMCP Foundation Day programmes at Mayo Road on August 28.

Following the court's directions, the two factions will now hold their programmes at separate locations in central Kolkata.

Mamata Banerjee-Led Faction to Hold Programme on Cathedral Road

According to the court's directions, the Kalighat faction led by Mamata Banerjee will organise its TMCP Foundation Day programme on Cathedral Road.

The faction will conduct its gathering under the conditions imposed by the court, including restrictions on attendance and timings.

Rituraj/Ritabrata Faction to Hold Programme at Rani Rashmoni Avenue

The Rituraj/Ritabrata faction has been permitted to organise its Foundation Day programme at Rani Rashmoni Avenue in Dharmatala.

The court has similarly imposed restrictions on the size and duration of the gathering to ensure that the event does not cause inconvenience to the public.

Strict Conditions Imposed by the High Court
While allowing both programmes, the Calcutta High Court imposed several conditions.

Neither faction will be permitted to have more than 1,500 people at its respective programme. The meetings must also be held only between 12 noon and 3 pm.

The restrictions are aimed at ensuring that the gatherings remain manageable and do not create significant disruption in the surrounding areas.

Organisers Asked to Provide Volunteer Details
The court has also directed both factions to provide the police with the phone numbers of 20 volunteers by Wednesday.

The volunteers are expected to assist with coordination and help maintain order during the programmes.

Organisers have also been instructed to ensure that normal traffic movement is not disrupted because of the gatherings.

Mayo Road Permission Denied

Although both factions had sought permission to hold their TMCP Foundation Day programmes at Mayo Road, the court did not grant permission for either group to organise its event at that location.

Instead, alternative venues were specified for the two factions.

The arrangement allows both groups to observe the Foundation Day while keeping their programmes separate and subject to clearly defined conditions.
