US President Donald Trump has launched a scathing critique of the United Kingdom’s current energy strategy, labeling the decision to limit North Sea oil exploration as “tragic” and “absolutely crazy.”
In a characteristic firebrand post on Truth Social, the President pointed to the thriving energy sector in Norway as a missed opportunity for the UK, specifically highlighting the city of Aberdeen as a potential boomtown left behind.

President Trump argued that the UK is “better situated” on the North Sea than its neighbor, Norway, yet fails to capitalize on its natural resources. He claimed that the UK is forced to buy energy at inflated prices while sitting on “one of the greatest fields in the world.”
”Europe is desperate for Energy, and yet the United Kingdom refuses to open North Sea Oil… Tragic!!! Aberdeen should be booming. Norway sells its North Sea Oil to the U.K. at double the price. They are making a fortune.”
The President’s critique didn’t stop at oil. He doubled down on his long-standing opposition to renewable wind energy, concluding his statement with a blunt mandate: “NO MORE WINDMILLS!” Trump has frequently criticized wind turbines for their aesthetic impact, cost, and perceived unreliability, often referring to them as a “green scam.” His latest comments suggest that under his worldview, the solution to the European energy crisis lies strictly in traditional extraction methods.
The timing of the President’s comments is significant. As global energy markets face volatility due to ongoing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and shifts in West Asian stability, the pressure on European nations to secure domestic energy sources has never been higher.
While the UK government has previously focused on “Net Zero” targets and transitioning to renewables, Trump’s “Drill, Baby, Drill” rhetoric signals a starkly different path for transatlantic energy cooperation.
