Tunisia Fire Sabri Lamouchi Following Crushing 5-1 Defeat to Sweden

Tunisia to sack coach after humiliating defeat in their World Cup opener against Sweden

Tunisia sacked head coach Sabri Lamouchi after they slumped to a bruising 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF) reportedly took the decision following an emergency meeting held less than 24 hours after the heavy Group F loss in Monterrey, making him the first managerial casualty of the tournament.

The team's alarming defensive collapse proving to be the final straw forced the FTF to take the extreme step after only one match.

The federation is yet to formally announce a permanent replacement, with reports suggesting former Tunisia coach Mondher Kebaier emerging as the frontrunner to take charge on an interim basis ahead of their second Group F match against Japan on June 21.

Lamouchi was appointed only in January after the exit of Sami Trabelsi and will leave after being in charge for only five matches, with one victory, one draw and three defeats.

Tunisia have conceded 10 goals in their last two outings, including a 5-0 loss to Belgium in a pre-World Cup friendly.
