António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, has issued a strong appeal for de-escalation in the intensifying Middle East conflict, warning that the situation has “gone too far” amid rising human and economic costs. In a message shared on social media, Guterres urged the United States and Israel to bring an immediate end to the war, highlighting the severe humanitarian consequences unfolding across the region. “The conflict in the Middle East has gone too far,” he stated. “It’s high time to end the war—as human suffering deepens, civilian casualties mount, and the global economic impact becomes increasingly devastating.” The UN chief also directed a pointed message toward Iran, calling on Tehran to refrain from escalating tensions beyond the immediate conflict zone. “My message to Iran is to stop attacking its neighbours that are not parties to the conflict,” Guterres said, emphasizing the risks of a broader regional destabilization. His remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, with fears growing over a wider confrontation that could impact global energy markets, trade routes, and international security. The United Nations has repeatedly called for restraint, ceasefire efforts, and renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further escalation and humanitarian catastrophe.
