Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand celebrate their historic bronze medal at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi.

India's Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have etched their names in the history books with a historic bronze medal at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi.

The unseeded Indian women's doubles pair produced a remarkable run on home soil, stunning China's fourth-seeded duo Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian in the quarterfinals to book their place in the last four.

Their dream campaign eventually ended in the semifinals against the world No. 1 combination of Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning. The Chinese pair prevailed 21-18, 13-21, 8-21 in a hard-fought contest.

Despite the semifinal defeat, Treesa and Gayatri secured the bronze medal, ending a 15-year medal drought for India in the women's doubles category at the World Championships.

Their achievement also matches India's previous women's doubles bronze-medal feat by Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa in 2011.

The historic performance marks a major milestone for Indian women's badminton and establishes Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand among the country's leading women's doubles pairs.
