UTTARKASHI TUNNEL UPDATE: Amid delays in the evacuation of the 41 trapped workers in the Silkyara Tunnel, international tunnelling
specialist, Arnold Dix has expressed positivity about the process. Speaking to the media he said, “The 41
men are coming home safely and we' re not going to hurt anybody in the process. We' re looking at
multiple options as we have been, right from the beginning. Whenever we look at any option, we
evaluate all the evidence that we have about how the mountain is behaving. Right now, the mountain
has again resisted the Auger. This means we' re rethinking our approach. It’s a decision that's been made
by all the experts, including Indian and local experts. The Himalayan experts in India are providing us
with all the information that we need. I am confident that all the 41 men will be coming home.” Mr. Dix
believes that hurrying the process may spring other unseen obstacles and endanger the lives of the
trapped workers.
On Saturday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited Uttarkashi to assess the situation.
Speaking to the media he said,” We will soon be successful in rescuing the labor brothers safely.”
The Augur machine that was being used for drilling has broken down and there will be no more drilling
by the Augur as decided by the team of specialists. Other methods are to be employed instead.
The Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) team has once again come on standby mode to do vertical drilling.
