Suvendu Adhikari Announces September Launch of ‘Arjun Bahini’ Disaster Response Force

The West Bengal government will establish a new disaster response force, named “Arjun Bahini,” by recruiting Agniveers to strengthen the state’s emergency response capabilities.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said the new force is expected to become operational in September. The initiative aims to deploy trained personnel quickly during disasters and other emergency situations across the state.

According to the government, 200 personnel have already been selected for the force. Of these, 100 will be stationed in Kolkata, 50 in the hills and 50 in Sagar, creating a dedicated response network across key areas of West Bengal.

The state government will also introduce 20% reservation for Agniveers in recruitment to the Fire and Emergency Services, Forest Department, Police and Disaster Management Department.

The move is expected to provide former Agniveers with additional employment opportunities while strengthening West Bengal’s preparedness and response mechanism for emergencies, natural disasters and other critical situations.
