West Bengal Cabinet Portfolios Announced: Suvendu Adhikari Retains Home, Swapan Dasgupta Gets Finance
The West Bengal government announced a long-awaited allocation of portfolios for its newly constituted council of ministers on Wedensday with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari retain the home ministry and journalist-turned-politician Swapan Dasupta becoming the finance minister.
Following days of deliberations and Adhikari's trip to New Delhi to resolve distribution bottlenecks with the party leadership, the formal appointments were issued by the Nabanna state secretariat
BJP strove to maintain balance by the administration, aiming to address economic expansion via the finance and industrial sectors while keeping a grip on state welfare and rural infrastructure.
CM Adhikari retained direct control over core governance sectors while Dasgupta has been tasked to navigate the state's fiscal recovery.
Tapas Roy has been been put in charge of the Industries and Commerce department and tasked with reviving manufacturing and driving private investment.
Oncologist Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee has been handed the health ministry to address public health delivery challenges.
In BJP's initial batch of core portfolios Dilip Ghosh was put in charge of Panchayat, Rural Development, and Animal Resources while Agnimitra Paul will oversee the Women & Child Development, Social Welfare, and Municipal Affairs & Urban Development.
Nisith Pramanik would manage the North Bengal Development, Sports, and Youth Welfare and Ashok Kirtania was in charge of the Food department.
Kshudiram Tudu continues to take care of Backward Class Welfare, Tribal Development, and Minority Affairs.
