West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has written a strongly worded letter to Election Commission of India (ECI) Chief Gyanesh Kumar, expressing “deep concern” over the recent voter roll revision process in the state.

In her letter, Banerjee alleged that the Special Intensive Revision appears to undermine the democratic and fundamental rights of the people of Bengal. She highlighted that the process has caused severe hardship, reportedly leading to the deaths of over 200 people, and criticized the ECI for its lack of a “humane and responsive approach.”
Mamata Banerjee further accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in coordination with the ECI, of attempting to manipulate voter inclusion. She cited reports of large numbers of Form 6 applications submitted by BJP agents across districts, allegedly including non-residents with no legitimate connection to West Bengal. The CM claimed similar patterns were observed in Bihar, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Delhi prior to elections.
“These actions, if true, are illegal, unconstitutional, and undemocratic,” she wrote, urging the ECI to ensure transparency and protect citizens’ voting rights.
The letter has sparked widespread debate over voter rights and electoral integrity in West Bengal ahead of upcoming elections.
