In a significant diplomatic and strategic development, Volodymyr Zelenskyy held high-level talks with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Doha, marking a new chapter in Ukraine-Qatar relations. The meeting was also attended by Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
The discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of security and defense. Both nations agreed to a long-term, mutually beneficial partnership in the defense sector, with a framework extending for at least a decade.

A key outcome of the meeting was the signing of a landmark agreement by the Chiefs of the General Staff of both countries. The agreement outlines plans for joint defense industry projects, including the establishment of co-production facilities and deeper technological collaboration between Ukrainian and Qatari companies. The move is expected to boost defense capabilities while fostering industrial growth and innovation in both nations.
During the talks, President Zelenskyy also briefed the Qatari leadership on the evolving security situation in Ukraine, highlighting ongoing Russian military actions and Moscow’s growing cooperation with Iran. He emphasized that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense systems remains a top priority and expressed hope for continued international support.
Zelenskyy extended his gratitude to the Qatari leadership for their warm hospitality and willingness to deepen cooperation, describing the outcomes of the meeting as “concrete and forward-looking.”
The meeting underscores Qatar’s expanding role as a diplomatic and strategic partner in global security discussions, while Ukraine continues to seek international alliances to bolster its defense capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
