Amit Shah Praises Suvendu Adhikari Over Bangladesh Border Fencing Push in West Bengal

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday praised West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari for expediting the process of land transfer required for fencing work along the India-Bangladesh border.

Addressing a public gathering, Shah said the BJP had promised during elections that border fencing along Bangladesh would be completed once the party came to power in West Bengal.

“We had said during the elections that we would begin the fencing work along the Bangladesh border after coming to power. I congratulate West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari for handing over 600 hectares of BSF land within seven days,” Shah said.

The Home Minister further added that 121 hectares of land in the strategically important “Chicken Neck” corridor had also been transferred to the Indian government, which would strengthen border security measures in the region.

Highlighting the BJP government’s stance on illegal immigration, Amit Shah claimed that infiltrators were now “going back on their own” and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to identifying and deporting illegal entrants from the country.

“The West Bengal BJP government has built detention centres, but we all want infiltrators to return on their own. Our government has taken a pledge to identify and expel every intruder from the country,” Shah stated.

The remarks are expected to intensify the political debate in West Bengal, where issues related to border security, illegal immigration, and national security remain key political topics ahead of upcoming elections.

The India-Bangladesh border, particularly in West Bengal, has long been a focus area for the Border Security Force due to concerns over infiltration, smuggling, and cross-border movement.
