Albanese Hails Modi, Unveils Landmark India-Australia Pacts

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "true friend of Australia" as the two leaders strengthened bilateral ties during the annual India-Australia Leaders' Summit in Melbourne.

Welcoming PM Modi, Albanese said the relationship between Australia and India has reached unprecedented levels six years after the launch of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, describing the two countries as "close partners and even closer friends."

The summit delivered a series of landmark agreements covering defence and security, education, science and technology, energy security, and critical minerals, reflecting the growing strategic and economic partnership between the two nations.

A major highlight was the release of the Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation, reaffirming both countries' shared commitment to maintaining a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific.

The two leaders also endorsed the Joint Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap, aimed at strengthening cooperation across the maritime domain and enhancing regional security.

In another significant development, India and Australia launched a new Partnership on Cyber, Critical Technologies and Supply Chains, designed to deepen collaboration in emerging technologies, digital resilience and secure supply chains.

The outcomes of the summit underscore the rapidly expanding India-Australia partnership, with both nations reaffirming their commitment to advancing cooperation across strategic, technological, economic and security sectors while promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
